Donna Maeda

Treasurer

Donna Maeda was born in Minneapolis and has lived in Los Angeles most of her adult life. After retiring from academia, where she focused on critical race studies in law and U.S. empire, Donna is happy to be part of collectives that are building what our communities need. In addition to C.A.S.A., Donna engages with Coyotl wan Macehualli (El Sereno), TeAda Productions (nomadic), Voices for Racial Justice (Minneapolis), and a union of collective gardens in Northeast L.A.


Brenda Chavelas‍‍ ‍

Secretary

Brenda Chavelas (she, her, ella) was born and raised in the SGV. Growing up, she was a part of the Mexican folklorico community, joining with companies throughout Los Angeles County. After years of tutelage, Brenda became a folklorico instructor to promote the performing arts for children and youth in the city of San Gabriel and greater Los Angeles County. As a teen, inspired by music, community, and social action, Brenda grew up influenced by the Los Angeles underground music scene. Primarily representing Latino punk, Brenda collaborated with musicians, collectives, art spaces, schools, and other DIY groups to promote music, performing arts, creativity, and mental health awareness. After retiring from professional dancing, Brenda is an active musician, collaborating with bands within the SGV and greater Los Angeles County to promote equality, mental health, creativity, and advocacy.


​Gabriel Panuco-Mercado

Grant Consultant

Gabriel Panuco-Mercado (he/him) was born and raised in the San Gabriel Valley. He is currently a PhD candidate in history studying Mexican migration. Gabriel has contributed to diverse efforts in the SGV and elsewhere, including tenant and domestic worker justice. He assists CASA in the grant-writing process and is currently organizing Testimonios, a community project centered around oral history, memory, and artistic reflection and preservation.


Elena Vasquez Brown ‍ ‍

Secretary

Elena has been an educator for over 13 years. She engages in danza with her family as a form of resistance and joy. She does local environmental justice organizing and loves collaborating and supporting community work.
